History

"I built my first snowboard in March 2015 after years of teaching myself online. To my surprise, it worked & I was hooked. The skills I’d learned studying fine woodworking at the College of the Redwoods in Northern California fit perfectly into shaping snowboards by hand. I kept building boards for myself, then for friends, and soon for friends of friends. Each one helped fund the next. For ten seasons, I made 10–20 boards a year while working full-time as a furniture maker, always dreaming about what Sounder could become. In fall 2023, I decided to go all in. A few amazing people came on board, and together we’re launching Sounder Snowcraft in Fall 2025. What started as a side project has become my full focus—I just want to make the best boards I can, every single day. One of my woodworking instructors motto was to “be happy in your work”.  I remind myself of this often and I hope the individual who finds a Sounder in their hands will feel this deep connection between builder and the finished product."
